Let’s talk skin… and winter skin at that! Before you go all damsel in
distress on me, know that there ARE ways to counteract the harshness of cold, dry, and windy weather conditions on our skin. Using products correctly and practicing consistency with your daily/weekly skin care regimen is key to maintaining hydrated, radiant skin; even amidst the dreariest days of winter.
Pro Tip #1: Treat exfoliation like it’s a new fling on the side and only “see” it every other night at max. You want to rid your skin of the dead skin cells, but you don’t want to disrupt it’s natural barrier.
Pro Tip #2: Apply your products from thinnest to thickest. By this, I mean layer your products from the thinnest consistency to the thickest consistency so that they more easily absorb into your skin and you get more bang for your buck.
Pro Tip #3: Just because it’s winter and just because it may not be sunny doesn’t mean SPF can be eighty-sixed! Protecting your skin from UVA and UVB sun rays with broad-spectrum sunscreen is your long-term saving grace. If you aren’t seeing the results of using daily SPF now, your older self will undoubtedly thank you!
Pro Tip #4: Moisturizer is always your friend, especially during the winter season, but it’s not the magic solution to your flaky and dry skin! Think of your skin as a sponge; it can only absorb so much. If you apply more than what’s needed, you not only waste product, you aren’t doing anything productive for your skin! So, yes, do make sure to incorporate moisturizer into your skin care routine, but don’t over do it.
Pro Tip #5: Don’t forget to take care of those luscious lips of yours! There are a shitload of lip scrubs on the market, but I prefer creating my own simple concoctions with whatever I have in my skin care cabinet. Sugar + coconut oil still reigns as my go-to in times of need!
Eminence Organic Skin Care’s Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer smells like the beach in a jar and feels like velvet on your skin! You can either dilute this product with fresh water or a desired Eminence tonique as a little bit goes a long way. Anti-aging, hydrating AF, and brightening; this baby won’t let you down!
Begin drawing yourself a sacred by bath adorning the area with whatever magickal trinkets you have. Crystals, candles, incense, herbs, books, sound bowls, tarot cards, you name it.
Cleanse this space by burning the amount of sage you feel is necessary to transmute all negative energy and entities into pure, positive energy. (I typically only use a small piece of sage as I regularly smudge my surroundings and this suits my energetic field best.)
Infuse your bathwater with 2 cups of epsom salt and 10 droplets of whatever essential oil(s) you prefer.
Once your bath is ready for you, hop on in with your fav face mask at your side. Get comfortable and massage the mask on your face, neck, and décolleté for a few minutes.
Allow the mask to do it’s thang while you sit back and soak in the healing vibrations of the sacred space you’ve just created for yourself; the extension of Source Energy you are.
Practice a body scan meditation technique by starting at the bottom or top of your body and inwardly send love and light to each, individual body part. Visualize Divine light, any color of your choice, enveloping the body part you are meditating upon and revitalizing it’s every cell.
Once you go through each body part, send love to the Collective Consciousness and return to normal breathing and your present-moment awareness.
Give thanks for this time of restoration and bliss and carry on however you intuitively wish to spend time in the bath, reading/journaling/etc, or feel free to wrap things up by gently removing your face mask and rinsing your body with warm water.
This is to be followed by applying a nourishing lotion to your entire body…naked… in front of a mirror… while repeating positive affirmations aloud to yourself. Trust me, this may sound “out-there”, but it really works in growing love for oneself. I have seen transformative outcomes by doing this at best a few times myself.
Cozy up into something comfortable or sass around in something sexy as you ease into your skin care regimen. Take your time with each product and give it your all to love the person looking back at you in the mirror.
You are so loved. You ARE love. At any moment you lose sight of that, remember it is nothing but an illusion attempting to deceive you. You can never be separated from God’s love for you are God’s love.
Complete this ritual by holding your hands to your heart and express gratitude to the Universe, angels, and beings of love and light that elevate your spirit and continually protect, encourage, and hold you very dear.
