How MEDITATION affects your SKIN

     For those of you who meditate regularly or have never dipped your feet into the transformative adventure into the mind, the mermaids are here to tell you aside from the plethora of health benefits it offers, meditation can improve your skin too! Although meditation isn’t recommended to replace your favorite serum or concealer, it has the power to enhance your skin care routine and overall well-being. Anyone can take advantage of this practice and the best part is, it can be done anywhere, at any time. Dive into the mind and allow the mystical power within to guide you on your soul’s journey to fulfillment and better skin!

 

 

Numerous studies emphasize meditation’s ability to reduce stress and negative emotions which are underlying contributors to several skin conditions including acne, eczema, rosacea, and accelerated aging. Research shows meditation can actually slow down the signs of aging due to its ability to lengthen and strengthen telomeres! Telomeres are found at the end of our chromosomes as a protective cap which shorten as we age and take on stress. We’re talking as little as meditating for 15 minutes daily has the potential to maintain one’s youthful complexion and spunky attitude! Working on the mind keeps the body young. As meditation involves a mindful approach to breathing, the skin reaps benefit from an increase in oxygen levels and blood circulation which creates a glow others will envy. Regular meditation has also been proven to boost happiness levels due to its ability to reduce cortisol, the stress hormone, and increase endorphins, the happy hormone. When we feel good, we are happier with ourselves. When we are happier with ourselves, our skin reflects it! 

 

So, how should you go about incorporating meditation into your daily routine? I’ll share with you one of my fav techniques, although there are thousands to choose from. Find a meditative practice that speaks to your true self as this is your ultimate goal - to quiet the mind, connect with who you really are, and better love yourself. I recommend meditating for at least 15 minutes each day. Studies show you can receive benefits by meditating as little as 10 minutes per day! Any amount of time is better than none. Practice, play, and discover what gets your soul soaring and your skin glowing!

 

Hop into something comfy and find a place where you can focus without distraction. Sit comfortably and place a single candle in front of you. For more info, GO HERE!) Gaze upon the candle flame and notice your thoughts rising and falling. Allow your thoughts to come and go without judgement or attached feelings. Trust your intuitive, inner being is with you, guiding you in each moment. Close your eyes when you are ready and begin to focus on the after-image of the flame until it fades away. Once this bright light diminishes, begin to shift your focus to your breath and stay in this place until your mind is stilled and you feel ready to slowly open your eyes and awaken your soul back to the physical reality of your surroundings. Smile and give thanks for you have just completed your meditation practice.
